Snowstorms of January 2010

Snow and more snow!

I don't recommend jumping off a roof into a snow pile. (Even if your parents try to get you to do it.)

Someone in town said he remembered snow like this in 1968 and maybe one other time but it has been a long time. We had two big snow storms already this winter. We still had a good amount of snow on the ground. Then the storms of this week hit. Tuesday morning we woke up to about 8 inches on the ground. Our car didn't want to drive through it. I walked half way to school and my friend drove me the rest of the way. Don missed his first class but was able to get to work in the afternoon after some of the snow had melted. Then we woke up Wednesday morning to another 6 inches. Our good neighbor drove us to work that morning. On Thursday morning we woke up to another 6 to 8 inches at 6:00 a.m. and it was still coming down in blizzard like conditions. I didn't know how in the world we would be able to get to work. The phone rang with the news that school was cancelled. I cried tears of relief. Later the college was also closed down. Edward and Krystal walked over to our house later that morning using trekking poles so they wouldn't get lost in the storm. They were concerned about us and now all of us didn't need to worry about each other. Our neighbor arranged for a bobcat and driver to come and dig us out that evening. What a blessing! But more snow was predicted during the night-2 to 3 feet. We prayed and hoped that our roof would hold the weight. The next morning we only had 2 inches more. We were blessed. Schools had already been cancelled for Friday so we shoveled. Finally on Saturday, yesterday, we were able to dig out and drive our car to run a few errands. We also went and dug out Edward and Krystal's car and driveway. Luckily, Bro. Jones came with his tractor and pulled away a lot of snow or we would still be digging. Our town has a lot of snow! What helped us through these storms was a saying of Grandma Larson's. She used to say, "Have you said your prayers? Then what do you have to worry about?" (Thanks for reminding us of this Ann.) We know that prayers are answered.

New Grandbaby-Ryan August Larson

Ryan August Larson was born to Carly and Michael on Jan. 6, 2010 at 12:31 p.m.
He was 8 lbs. 2 oz. and 19 1/2 inches long.
Ryan had some fluid in his lung and one lung wasn't fully extended so he spend a few hours in the ICU. But he is doing well now.
Grandma and Grandpa got to drive up and see Ryan for a little bit.
We will have to go back soon because he hasn't had his fill of Grandma kisses yet.

Ryan says hi!

Rock Climbing the day after Thanksgiving

Edward brought home some climbing equipment from his shop and took us up on the mountain. Three year old Noah didn't want to be left out so he even took a turn climbing.
Amelia, the first step is the worst when rappelling.

I think this is Tyler on the way down. Josh climbed and rappelled too.
He even did it with a broken toe.

Grandpa and Grandma babysat the little ones while their parents climbed.

No, I am not going up or down that cliff. Just don't knock any rocks down on my head.

It took some courage but everyone had lots of fun.

Hyrum climbed this cliff three times and would have done it more but other people needed a turn. He was a natural.

Look at him go!

This was the starting point were instructions were given and equipment readied.

We enjoyed being up on the mountain on this beautiful fall day with some of our family.

My loving daughters hosted a baby shower for Carly and Michael on Nov. 14th. It was held at my parent's condo clubhouse. Lots of family from both sides came to lend support to the couple and the upcoming birth of their son. Thanks girls for all the work you did!

Autumn on the Blues

We took a drive last Monday for FHE. We went up on the Monticello side of the Blues. It was beautiful. There were a lot of deer on the side of the road. It was a nice way to welcome in autumn. My pictures really don't show the colors. We are grateful for the beauties of this world.
